Work Tents

Properly designed work tents will reduce cross-contamination from work being done on structures or spaces contaminated by radiological or other hazardous materials. Serving as a barrier between work surfaces and clean areas, tents and containment covers are used to create a controlled environment to reduce overall exposure levels during work, and to minimize the scope and complexity of subsequent cleanup operations.

Lancs has been providing work tents for our customers since the company’s inception in 1974. We have been involved with hundreds of different site configurations ranging from simple single chamber tents with limited access to complex requirements such as expandable and collapsable, multi-tier, multi-chamber tents spanning areas of thousands of square feet.

We can work directly from your design to fabricate tents precisely to your specifications. Or, drawing upon our longstanding experience, we can suggest best practices to incorporate needed features and collaborate with you to develop a tent design that addresses all the requirements of your project scenario.

A tent from Lancs Industries can be from among 4 standard layouts with popular dimensions and common features. These standard tent designs may address many of your project requirements with little or no modification.

We can also provide decon chambers, steam generator work tents, bull pen containments (no roof), and large scale covers with irregular shapes. If it can be drawn, we can make it.

Work Tent Material

All materials used by Lancs in fabricating tents are fire retardant to ensure worker safety.
Tent walls and ceilings are generally made using Pacifitex 1400 with a yellow exterior and white interior.

Floors are made using Pacifitex 1800 in yellow or white, for durability. Removable floors can be included to facilitate decontamination for extended use tents.

Windows made using 20 mil double polished clear PVC will be included to ensure adequate light.
Service sleeves and access ports are attached wherever required and are made using 12 mil translucent yellow PVC.

Doors are made using YKKVislon #10 heavy duty molded tooth zipper with double pull sliders.
Frames are made from galvanized steel pipe (see Section 400 for detail) with custom-machined fittings for easy asssembly.

Work Tent Fabrication

All wall, floor, and ceiling panels are heat sealed together using RF electronic technology. Work chamber panels are double sealed to ensure integrity and maximize tensile strength.

All window panels and service sleeves are heat sealed with a minimum 1/2” seam.
Door zippers are double stitched to prevent rip-out. Velcro flaps are included as covers for added security.

Inlet filters made from reticulated foam filter media in mesh screen pouches can be included to support negative ventilation.

Tie-off points made from heavy duty injection molded PVC are attached to tent exterior by heat sealing at spaced intervals along external frame lines to provide adequate support of tent chamber.

Tent Frames

The external frame used to support a work tent is an integral part of the tent design. Spacing and location of frame pieces must be planned in a way to ensure a solid tent structure while avoiding interference with tent access or service features.

Lancs uses 1 inch nominal Schedule 40 galvanized steel pipe to fabricate tent frame pieces. Frame members are joined with fittings made of ASTM A47 Grade 32510 heavy duty cast iron. Pipe and fittings are custom made to accommodate any necessary shape and angle.

Tie-offs are heat sealed to the exterior of tent walls at points running along frame positions. Nylon tie wraps are commonly used to fasten a tent to its frame.
